Awarded: Phase 4 Design of Al Uqda Equestrian Complex

Focus Design is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Phase 4 Design of the Al Uqda Equestrian Complex, a major milestone in the continued evolution of Qatar’s equestrian and sports infrastructure. Spanning nearly 978,000 sqm, this project will upgrade one of the country’s most important horse racing venues to international standards, further enabling Qatar to host major regional and global equestrian events.

Located just outside Al Khor City, the Al Uqda Equestrian Complex is a key asset of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC), a longestablished institution that organizes regular racing seasons and highprofile competitions on both the Al Rayyan and Al Uqda racecourses. The venue has already proven its capability to host significant events, including the finale of the HH The Amir Sword Festival, which was successfully held at Al Uqda with full operational readiness, underscoring its event capacity and competitive environment.

Phase 4 will extend and reconfigure the racecourse, increasing lap length and adding a new straight chute, while incorporating an underground tunnel to ensure safe operational flow. The scope also includes new spectator, VIP, and broadcast facilities, enhancing visitor experience and supporting televised international competition. These improvements position Al Uqda to complement Qatar’s broader network of worldclass equestrian venues and facilities.

This award reflects Qatar’s strategic investment in sports as a platform for global engagement. Following successful global events such as the FIFA World Cup and elite equestrian competitions, the development of Al Uqda reinforces the nation’s role as a premier host for diverse international sporting disciplines
