Set within a site of approximately 978,000 sqm, Phase 4 of the Al Uqda Equestrian Complex delivers a key expansion and enhancement of one of Qatar's leading equestrian venues. The development comprises approximately 12,220 sqm of built-up area, 132,000 sqm of hardscape, and 88,000 sqm of landscaped areas, strengthening the complex's capacity for training, racing, and large-scale equestrian events while enhancing both operational efficiency and the visitor experience.
The development combines the design of new facilities with the adaptation and enhancement of existing assets. A new grandstand and spectator precinct form the centerpiece of the expansion, complemented by outdoor viewing areas, expanded parking facilities, and the repurposing of the existing grandstand into an administrative hub.
The masterplan is organized around horse movement and the race-day cycle, creating a clear operational sequence from arrival and stabling to preparation, racing, cooling, sampling, and departure.
Dedicated circulation routes for horses, staff, service vehicles, and visitors minimize operational conflicts while supporting safety, horse welfare, and event efficiency. A key element of the project is the extension and reconfiguration of the racetrack to a total length of approximately 2,400 m, including a new straight and associated track infrastructure. The works also introduce new inner warm-up tracks and supporting landscape, expanding the venue's training capabilities while improving operational flexibility. An underground service tunnel beneath the track provides controlled access for service vehicles and starting gate operations, ensuring uninterrupted race-day activity.
The development establishes a comprehensive race-day precinct comprising a receiving barn, stables, expanded parade and pre-parade areas, saddling facilities, horse loading infrastructure, warm-up and trotting rings, post-race cooling, unsaddling and holding areas, sampling facilities, broadcast and operational support spaces, as well as dedicated storage for starting gates and maintenance equipment. Together, these facilities create a purpose-built facility that enhances horse welfare, streamlines race-day logistics, and supports the efficient delivery of equestrian events.
A critical network of site-wide infrastructure underpins the development, including stormwater drainage, potable water, irrigation and treated sewage effluent systems, fire-fighting networks, electrical distribution, security systems, broadcast communications, and associated utility services. Together with logistics and maintenance facilities, upgraded boundary infrastructure, and provisions for future expansion, the development establishes a resilient and adaptable equestrian destination capable of supporting the continued growth of Qatar's racing industry.
