In preparation for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, Qatar is undertaking a comprehensive modernization of its premier indoor basketball venues, reinforcing its position as a global destination for major international sporting events. Building on the country's successful delivery of international tournaments, the project upgrades a network of competition and training facilities to meet the highest international standards for athletes, spectators, broadcasters, and event operations.
The project focuses on four key venues: Lusail Multi-Purpose Hall, Duhail Sports Hall, Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, and the Qatar Basketball Federation Hall, each operating as part of an interconnected network of competition and training facilities. The works address the full performance envelope of each venue, from building systems and spectator environments to broadcast, security, and operational infrastructure.
Our role covered the facilities’ multidisciplinary design across architecture, building services, fire and life safety, and specialist systems. Key interventions include the upgrade and integration of low-voltage systems such as CCTV, access control, automatic number plate recognition, and public address systems, alongside enhancements to sports lighting with intelligent control strategies. The design also includes acoustic reconfiguration to support multipurpose international events, together with a comprehensive review of HVAC, fire protection, and life safety systems in accordance with applicable QCDD and NFPA requirements. Spectator experience and venue flexibility were further enhanced through improvements to seating configurations, motorized divider systems, and refined wayfinding and signage strategies.
Collectively, the project strengthens Qatar's portfolio of world-class indoor sporting venues, delivering facilities capable of hosting global competitions while extending the operational life, flexibility, and performance of existing infrastructure.
